Carrion - Dead animals.

Crown - The upper, topmost portion of a tree.

DDT - DDT stands for Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, a pesticide once widley used in the United States to kill insects. It was banned for most uses in the United States in 1972.

Estuary - A tidally influenced area where rivers meet the ocean. The fresh water from the rivers mixes with the salt water in the ocean.

Forage - To search for food.

Habitat - The portion of the enviornment where an animal or plant usually lives.

Pesticides - Chemicals used to kill pests, especially insects.

Predator - An animal that hunts or catches other animals for food.

Prey - An animal hunted or caught for food.

Rappel - To descend vertically from a height using a rope and (often) a device that provides friction.

Raptors - Birds that hunt other animals for food.

Salinity - The concentration of salt in water. Higher salinity water (like ocean water) is saltier than low salinity water.

Salinity Zones - Areas characterized by a particular salinity.

Scavenge - To feed on dead animals (instead of hunting or catching live animals for food).
