Students : Undergraduate Opportunities

Undergraduate students are encouraged to become involved with the conservation of natural resources either through the Center for Conservation Biology or some other organization. The Center for Conservation Biology currently offers four different types of opportunities for undergraduates.

Participating in Ongoing Field Research
The Center for Conservation Biology typically conducts 15-25 field projects per year. Projects deal with a diversity of species and questions and employ a diversity of field techniques. Many of these projects are appropriate for student involvement.

Assisting with Research/Activities within the Center
The Center for Conservation Biology conducts many projects that require extensive data management and analysis. Many of these projects involve computer mapping, digitizing, or other activities within the data laboratory. In addition to ongoing research, the Center frequently has a need for student assistance in cataloging books or other resources within the Baker Library.

Independent Research in Biology
Undergraduates that wish to conduct independent research for biology credits may do so within the Center for Conservation Biology. Such opportunities depend on proposed topics of study and the time commitments of supervising faculty.

Undergraduate Honors Research
Undergraduate students that are eligible for the concentration honors program may conduct research within the Center for Conservation Biology. Such agreements must be arranged with faculty within the Center and depend on the proposed research topic.
