SUPPORT PEREGRINE FALCONS IN VIRGINIA

To a large extent, the recovery of peregrine falcons in Virginia is the result of past and ongoing management efforts. Establishment of nesting structures has greatly increased opportunities for the breeding population. Maintenance of nest boxes has increased the number of young produced. What we know about the breeding population is the result of an intensive monitoring effort. All of these ongoing activities require financial support.

The Center for Conservation Biology is looking for individuals, organizations, and corporations that are interested in contributing to the future of Virginia's peregrine falcon population. Funds are needed for the following programs.

ANNUAL POPULATION MANAGEMENT
Each year, the Center for Conservation Biology performs various management activities on behalf of the peregrine falcon breeding population in Virginia. Funds are needed on an annual basis for personnel, travel, and building materials.

FALCONTRAK
FalconTrak is a cooperative project designed to answer a collection of questions about the movements and survival of Virginia peregrines. The project utilizes satellite telemetry to track young falcons throughout their annual cycle. Solar-powered satellite transmitters will be fitted to the back of peregrines before fledging. These birds will be tracked for a period of 3 years to determine survivorship, movement patterns, and eventual breeding locations. Funds are needed for satellite transmitters, satellite tracking time, personnel, and travel. We are looking for individuals, organizations, and corporations that are interested in sponsoring a young falcon.
